CENTER VALLEY, Pa., (February 26, 2018) – Olympus, a global technology leader in designing and delivering innovative solutions for medical and surgical procedures, among other core businesses, announced today it is hosting a live webinar entitled “Establishing an EUS Program in Your Community Hospital” presented by Dr. Nathan Landesman, D.O., F.A.C.O.I. The webinar will be presented on March 1, 2018 at 4:00 PM EST.
Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS) combines endoscopy and ultrasound to obtain accurate images of the digestive tract and surrounding tissue and organs. During EUS, an endoscope with an ultrasound transducer is inserted into the body via the digestive tract. From this internal vantage point, high-frequency sound waves are bounced off the body’s internal tissues. These echoes are then converted into a computerized picture and displayed on a monitor. The use of ultrasound allows visualization of all five layers of the GI tract as well as surrounding tissue and organs. Providing a non-surgical evaluation with a high degree of accuracy, EUS plays an important role in diagnosing gastrointestinal disease and staging cancers.
Although widely available in academic facilities, EUS is increasing in community hospitals. The benefits of EUS in a community hospital include:
- Increasing quality of care: EUS drives optimal patient outcomes through easy identification and more accurate staging of diseases and cancers in the GI tract, and assists in solidifying the care continuum.
- Addressing cost of care: As a result of the EUS evaluation, further clinical care to treat the patient may be needed. EUS’ complete financial benefit to the hospital may be realized when post procedure downstream care is conducted at the same facility.
- Enhancing patient care experience: EUS provides a non-surgical evaluation with a high degree of accuracy, allowing for earlier diagnosis and/or staging.
“I am excited to present this live webinar,” said Dr. Nathan Landesman, D.O., F.A.C.O.I. “Community hospital EUS is a rapidly expanding field that is successfully driven by communication, education and perseverance. I look forward to explaining how the program was established at our facility and the benefits it has brought us and our patients.”
